Käla Mandrake is the founder of Käla Mandrake Underground Media Productions. She lives in New York City, New York, United States.
DS: How did you hear about Dailysingle? What are you expecting from being on the front page?
Käla: Last year I met Simon, the founder, at a very good friend's birthday party. He told me about his magazine and I was impressed by the idea of it, that it features people who are doing their own unique thing. My expectations about being on the cover is to be able to talk about my work, and hopefully get readers involved in my upcoming documentary on my grandfather, Mandrake the Magician!
DS: What are the most memorable years of your life and what happened to make them so memorable?
Käla: The most memorable years of my life were the turning points in my career. In 2000, I had my first Photography Exhibition. In 2009, producing at HBO. In 2010, published my book FICTION STORY. In 2011, I published my Photography Book UNDERGROUND. January 2012, premiered my Short Film WURTSBORO. 2011 I also launched Käla Mandrake Underground Media Productions (KMUMP)
There are many mysteries about my grandfather's life but despite his secrets, everyone who met him, loved him because he was such a generous and kind man.
DS: How would you best describe yourself?
Käla: I would describe myself as an artist. I want to be in constant in motion, always working on new projects. I'm the most happy when I'm making something. I tend to take it as a personal challenge if I am told I can't do something. I created my own Production Company to work on my own stuff, and work with other people to help them manifest their dreams too. I love connecting with other artists, musicians, and artist-entrepreneurs. I believe in cross-promotion, in mutual elevation.
DS: What are the must-haves in your daily wardrobe?
Käla: Must-have comfortable in my daily wardrobe. Must-haves are cotton, silk, and corduroy.

DS: Who do people tell you you look like?
Käla: Mostly it has been Julianne Moore. Second most has been Madonna.
DS: How did you end-up being a founder of Kala Mandrake Underground Media Productions?
Käla: I ended being the founder of my KMUMP because I have always felt most inspired to do everything myself. So that's why it is essentially a one-woman-production company. Kind of a "one-woman show." It gives me a lot of freedom to do things my way, at the speed I need to do it and sometimes unconventional style I need to do it in. My grandfather, Mandrake the Magician is my inspiration. He was a famous magician who didn't let anything deter him from fulfilling his calling as a magician and performer from the age 11 until he was 74 years old. No matter what changes were happening around him, he kept going and just did it his own way. His attitude was that if you believe in it then do it, persevere and don't let anything stand in your way.

DS: Can you tell us more about your job?
Käla: KMUMP offers photography and video production for musicians, performing artists and artist entrepreneurs. It specializes in Music videos, Behind-the-Scenes videos, Artist reels, Promos/trailers, Short documentaries, and Short films. My company always seeks to create a product that can stand in both the mainstream media world and the avant garde underground world. I do all things for my clients that I love to do for myself, which is writing/producing, directing/shooting and video editing. I've been working in TV and film for over 6 years, writing/producing and editing for major networks. What is great about doing that, specifically at HBO, is that it is like working with a bunch of cutting edge artists in the mainstream world, so I was given the freedom to come up with my own ideas and just do it. It encouraged me in my own Production Company, to combine mainstream and avant garde.

DS: Let's talk more about you and your tastes. Any hobbies? What do you like to do in your free time? Any thing you like and recommend?
Käla: I love finding hidden places in the city. I love doing tarot readings, astrology and numerology. What do I recommend? I guess would say to get a tarot or astrology reading from me. It's fun.
DS: What is a typical week for Käla?
Käla: Typical week is mostly about working on projects. When I am not working on someone else's projects, then I pick one of my own projects to work on. In the evenings, I like to go out to events, see art, music, go to nice restaurants. And walk a lot.
DS: Some quick questions: What is the first thing you do in the morning?
Käla: First thing I do in the morning is try to remember what I dreamed the night before. If I remember and it was something really interesting, then I will write it down.
DS: What is your favorite restaurant in New York City?
DS: What is your favorite song today? Of all time?
Käla: Today is "High On A Wire" by The Black Box Revelation
Favorite song of all time is "Everyday Is A Holiday" by my grandfather.
DS: What is your favorite "drug"?
Käla: I would say that flying in an airplane is like a drug for me.
The photo shoot
DS: What is in store for you? Any key projects for the next months? Anything you want to share? Can our readers help you with anything?
Käla: My current project is a documentary on my grandfather, Mandrake the Magician. He was a magician who started off in Vaudeville at 11 years old, and made a name for himself by inventing and performing magic acts around the world. There is a famous comic strip drawn to look just like him. There are many mysteries about his life but despite his secrets, everyone who met him, loved him because he was such a generous and kind man. For the film, I will be following his footsteps, looking for clues into his secret life. April 11th is his birthday and I'm going to to Las Vegas on the 12th to interview some celebrity names about his influence on their lives. I am doing interviews with people everywhere and anywhere that have heard of him, were influenced by him, inspired by him, knew him in person, saw his performances, have pictures, memorabilia, anything. I would love to hear from everyone who has heard of him. Please contact me!
DS: Anything you want to add to close this interview?
Käla: Hollywood is working on a movie on Mandrake the Magician the comic strip character... people can help make it a success by spreading the enthusiasm for it. If you're interested in it, blog about it, Facebook about it, Twitter about it. And be part of the decision on which Hollywood actor should play the gorgeously handsome Mandrake. wink.
DS: Thank you Käla
Käla: Thank You Dailysingle. I love you! And thank you everybody for reading and please contact me if you are interested in being part of my Mandrake documentary.
