The interview

Natasha Arora is an interior stylist & home stager. She lives in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
DS: How did you hear about Dailysingle? What are you expecting from being on the front page?
Natasha Arora: I heard about Dailysingle via a friend's post on Facebook; I know she has great taste so I enquired further. My expectation of being on the front page of DS is to continue to build traction with my growing client-centered business. A published story would validate further my unique ECOnomical DECOrating concept and hopefully allow this coverage to be part of a solution for all those persons wanting to improve their current way of living and working at home or at the office. My decorating concept is democratic in its design.

Everyone has the potential to live in an enhanced way

DS: What are the most memorable years of your life and what happened to make them so memorable?
Natasha Arora: The most memorable year of my life was from 1992-93 when I lived and studied in Paris. My academic year at La Sorbonne and cultural immersion into French society left an indelible impression and have contributed greatly to the person I have become. I spent close to five (5) months in New Delhi in 1995 thinking I wanted to become a VJ on then Star TV. What was I nuts? I returned home to Canada on 7 May 1995, incidentally also the same day Jacques Chirac took office. I also sojourned in Florence for a month in 1999. This time it was to pursue Italian language studies and of course savour another immersion into European living and traveling. It was fantastico! I also thoroughly enjoyed my holiday month in Milan in 2009. And of course, every business and social trip to NYC since the early 90s have been remarkable for the high quality of people I have met and the countless happy moments dining out, walking about, experiencing new spots and venues, and creating lasting memories.
DS: How would you best describe yourself?
Natasha Arora: I am able to be creative and efficient at the same time while affecting positive and tangible change. I am also courageous, reliable, supportive, elegant, social, confident, articulate, fit, generous, witty, self-aware, kind, thoughtful, compassionate, with a strong sense of family. But I am also a perfectionist. I enjoy and need: quality company, fresh air, warmth of heart, curiosity, integrity, and stimulating conversation. I'm also attentive to details: chivalrous acts would be noticed! I believe strongly: commitment is sexy; truth is admirable; manners matter; strength of character and mind are vital. I love dogs. I really don't like cats. I love tennis! I love to dance! I love to laugh!
DS: What are the must-haves in your daily wardrobe?
Natasha Arora: The must-haves in my daily wardrobe are a good bra, comfortable shoes and quality socks, dark blue jeans that fit just right, (season dependent) a cashmere V, lip shimmer, rectangular-ish watch, handbag, and hand cream. Comfort is key.

DS: Who do people tell you you look like?
Natasha Arora: Years ago people used to tell me I looked like Yasmeen Gauri, also a native Montrealer. We never actually met but I do remember seeing her once on the dance floor at a Montreal club. I had also been told a couple of times that I looked like Janet Jackson. Uh, not sure about that! Anyway, these compliments came my way in the 90s when both ladies were hot in their respective businesses as fashion model and singer. I have been in front of the camera a few times and, of late, I was thinking of trying my hand as back-up singer for Sade. Hmmm. Possible career change in the works?!
DS: How did you end-up being an interior stylist & home stager ?
Natasha Arora: I became an interior stylist more than six years ago. I recount the story on my website, however, in short, the work I do is every bit an extension of my personality. I don't wholly believe in consumption hence the 'no throwing, no buying' theme; I'm pragmatic and believe in functionality. I'm decisive and imaginative but like things to get done as quickly as possible (usually in one day) so that changing emotions do not create delays in my clients' living well, living better. I use haute gamme standards to achieve high quality and soul in my clients' homes using their existing furniture and accessories. Sidebar, I think it would be awesome to lunch with designer Nate Berkus. I believe we'd enjoy each others company. Smiles guaranteed!

DS: Can you tell us more about your job?
Natasha Arora: I created my job as interior stylist as a result of looking for work in Communications. While I was job hunting, I realized that I was actually talented at re-decorating using existing furniture and accessories and was not afraid to roll up my sleeves and pick up a hammer or a drill, work to install art, arrange vases and knick knacks. My work is every bit physical but at the same time creative. I love design, film and architecture, and these interests have helped to form the way I look at things. I'm good at visualizing a 'finished' room or space and it is very satisfying to see a room, office or retail window (a new service recently added to my roster) take shape. It is very exciting to see the look of satisfaction on my client's face. 'Before' pictures can sometimes be horrifying while 'After' pictures are astonishing. It's often been said to do what you’re passionate about. OK! I'm thankful I have this talent and am most proud of my testimonials and client referrals. But my wish is that my unique decorating service would become more of a household name. Everyone has the potential to live in an enhanced way.
DS: Let's talk more about you and your tastes. Any hobbies? What do you like to do in your free time? Any thing you like and recommend?
Natasha Arora: I love playing tennis as often as possible, while on a weekly basis I do Pilates, boxing, yoga, spinning; my daily ritual involves long walks and I sip cappuccino usually in the mid-late morning. I enjoy foreign films and comedies too. I'm very curious and love discovering new things and 'connecting the dots' with the help of search engines and social sites, or organically, letting life happen serendipitously.
DS: What is a typical week for Natasha Arora?
Natasha Arora: I suppose my typical day involves waking up before eight, turning on my computer, making phone calls, eating, confirming appointments, drinking a cup of coffee, reading my salmon-colored newspaper, following up, drinking water, re-confirming meetings, eating, exercising, making contacts and sometimes friends, smiling, joking, laughing, closing deals, and making happy clients. So my typical week would be seven times that! Ha! Am not being cheeky.
DS: Some quick questions: What is the first thing you do in the morning?
Natasha Arora: Drink water, stretch and meditate positive thoughts (less than five minutes).
DS: What is your favorite "drug"?
Natasha Arora: I really enjoy wine (red and sparkling) and a well-made macchiato. But what pumps me is the truth. May it be spoken more often.
