The interview

Abigail Ekue is a 30 year old writer and photographer. She lives in New York City, New York, United States.
DS: How did you hear about Dailysingle? What are you expecting from being on the front page?
Abigail: I heard about Dailysingle through an UrbanDaddy email I received. I had to jump on this opportunity. I am expecting to generate more visits to my website, new "fans" of my art and work which will lead to new projects and income -- for a working artist, that is very important.
DS: What are the most memorable years of your life and what happened to make them so memorable?
Abigail: The high school and college years. The old cliche of "finding myself" -- my likes, dislikes, quirks, developing and dealing with friendships and relationships, learning to let go. If you don't find yourself and remember it you're bound to fall back. My 20's have also been memorable. Those experience inspired so much of my art. I made some great creative strides - "Self-Portraitry", Man. Toy., my screenplays, participating in the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival, wrote and published "The Darker Side of Lust", my short story collection, art & nude modeling, event production, health and fitness articles and personal essays getting published (and I got paid for it!) my portfolio grew, considerably.
DS: Where were you born and where do you live now?
Abigail: I was born and raised in New York City. I have a wanderlust that is becoming very loud and demanding. So I see myself traveling the word very soon. Europe, Africa, Asia, South America, Australia... you get the idea!

I've been writing my entire life - I still remember pecking away at my mother's typewriter, making up mysteries

DS: How would you best describe yourself?
Abigail: I would describe myself as a passionate, energetic, creative woman.
DS: What are the must-haves in your daily wardrobe?
Abigail: Jeans, sneakers (or comfortable shoes), a pair of earrings and my watch.
DS: Who do people tell you you look like?
Abigail: I've never been told I look like anyone famous. Wow! I don't have a doppelganger? Maybe I'll be the one younger artists are compared to.
DS: What is the compliment you most frequently get?
Abigail: The compliment I most frequently get is that I'm a very strong person. That I have an energy about me that is older than my actual years. I'm also complimented a lot on my smile.

DS: How did you end-up being a writer and photographer?
Abigail: I've been writing my entire life - I still remember pecking away at my mother's typewriter, making up mysteries. I was influenced by Nancy Drew and the book "The Search for Sarah Sanderson". I first decided to make a career as a screenwriter. Then I got the unrelenting desire to be published in a national glossy so I worked towards that. I quit a day job (with benefits!) to be a writer. I did build my freelance portfolio after that. I kept writing when I had to go back into the "traditional" work force. The photography bug bit after being a model for both brilliant photographers and "Dudes with cameras". I'm influenced by my love and life and a need to tell that story.
DS: Can you tell us more about your job?
Abigail: My job is to tell stories through the written word and now through images. I'd recommend this job to anyone who is compelled to do it. There's no other way to explain it, I'm compelled to do this. I can handle the late nights, the solitude, the radio silence I get in response to my work sometimes. I've chosen subject matters that make people think. And thinking doesn't require speaking or contact. My best experiences have been when my projects are complete. I love that feeling. Worst experiences? Learning the business side of art. I'm constantly working towards making that my only job, but as many artists know, a day job is a necessary evil sometimes. In the past 2 years, I've self-published a book, taught myself photography, basic HTML and graphic design so I could design my website, www.abigailekue.com, and promote my work, produced/promoted events, done tons of copywriting and yes, I am looking for a job. Anything where I can utilize my creative mind and skills would be ideal.

DS: Let's talk more about you and your tastes. Any hobbies? What do you like to do in your free time? Any thing you like and recommend?
Abigail: My hobbies are my art. So I'm lucky. If I'm not writing an assignment, I'm writing on my blog or in my journal. I've had more time recently to read for leisure. I also eat well. That may be when I cook myself a meal or go out. I linger over my meals, savor everything, including the wine. But the meal is even better when I'm sharing with someone. When I totally want to de-stress, I workout or catch up on television. I don't have tv so I watch shows online; I have mini-marathons as I catch up on the previous weeks' episodes.
DS: What is a typical week for Abigail?
Abigail: A typical week consists of late nights and socializing. I put the socializing and partying under the umbrella of "networking" because I make tons of connections that way. I'm also looking for a way to get my art to a new fan base. I gain ideas and inspiration from going to events that aren't in the erotic arts world. Variety keeps things fresh. The late nights when I'm home consist of writing or working on photos from an event I covered, updating my website and doing my best not to pull out my hair. I make sure I find time for sleep though, so that may require I sleep in some mornings. I also fit a workout in at the very least 3 times a week.
DS: Some quick questions: What is the first thing you do in the morning?
Abigail: Uncover my eyes, look at my ceiling, windows and then the time.
DS: What is your favorite word?
Abigail: Why.
DS: What it your favorite quotation? Or make your own for posterity...
Abigail: Passion, a powerful force that cannot be stopped. - Moliere
DS: What is your favorite "drug"?
Abigail: The creative process, solving mysteries, discovery.

DS: What magic power would you like to have if you could choose one?
Abigail: To be able to grant wishes.
DS: If not yourself, who would you be?
Abigail: Any single woman who has/had the guts to be an expat.
DS: What is in store for you? Any key projects for the next months? Anything you want to share? Can our readers help you with anything?
Abigail: The Emotional Black Male. I've been putting it off long enough because so many different manifestations are swirling around in my head. After that, another book, erotic or otherwise. I need to create and seize more opportunities to encourage and inspire other people, especially women, to be "BodyWise" (I coined that phrase in my novel...I gotta publish my novel too). Travel - I need to see the world.
DS: Anything you want to add to close this interview?
Abigail: I am a solo artist who collaborates. So to anyone who is serious about working together in any capacity, reach out. Art breeds art!
DS: Thank you Abigail
Abigail: Thank you! Till we meet again~
