Esther Gauthier is a 27 year old writer. She lives in New York City, New York, United States.
DS: How did you hear about Dailysingle? What are you expecting from being on the front page?
Esther Gauthier: From my friend Parme. An upcoming actress based in New York.
DS: What are the most memorable years of your life and what happened to make them so memorable?
Esther Gauthier: The last memorable moment I can think of would be october 2010 when our 85 years old grand-ma, aka Mamie Chou, came to visit my brother and I in New York with her daughter (our mom). She comes from a small town south of Paris and had never crossed the Atlantic. Definitely a beautiful week to remember.
DS: Where were you born and where do you live now?
Esther Gauthier: I was born in Paris.
I moved to New York in 2006 to find the freedom I couldn't find in Paris. And the blue sky I couldn't find in Paris either.
My idea was to create some kind of a parallel world that would allow the reader to escape their lives without going too far away from their reality.
DS: How would you best describe yourself?
Esther Gauthier: I always try to follow my heart and intuition.
DS: What are the must-haves in your daily wardrobe?
Esther Gauthier: Earrings everyday. And scarf somedays...
DS: Who do people tell you you look like?
Esther Gauthier: Some say I look like Natascha McElhone (from Californication) which is a beautiful compliment for me.
DS: What is the compliment you most frequently get?
Esther Gauthier: "I love your earrings!" What can I say ? I got this passion for earrings from my mom. She had them framed on the wall and would pick a new pair of big clip-on every morning. I was fascinated. Now, I have my own collection of vintage earrings. The funny thing is that neither my mom or I have our ears pierced. So we only wear the clip on version. So old school.

DS: How did you end-up being a writer?
Esther Gauthier: As I said before, I try to follow my heart. After 4 years of being a fashion producer in New York, I needed to do something I cared about. I had always wanted to write so one morning, I decided it was time and I started creating my Elinor Bird stories. You have no idea how happy it immediately made me.
DS: Can you tell us more about your job?
Esther Gauthier: I work freelance so I am lucky I can do many different things in my life. There are a few projects I am very proud of but the one I would like to talk about is Elinor Bird.
My idea was to create somekind of a parallel world that would allow the reader to escape their lives without going too far away from their reality. A world they could explore themselves if they wanted to. So I imagined a fiction that would take place in our reality. My characters eat at our restaurants, walk in our parks, go see our movies, read our books. They travel our world. For us.
And you get a double satisfaction. First, you escape your daily life while following the adventures of Elinor Bird, Billie King, Paige Miller, Jack Hanks... And then, you collect all kinds of good tips for your next travel.
A concept that has been so far a great success. 62 episodes are on-line at elinorbird.com and I am working on Season 3 right now. My readers are dying to know what's coming next.
DS: Let's talk more about you and your tastes. Any hobbies? What do you like to do in your free time? Any thing you like and recommend?
Esther Gauthier: The artichoke dip at Freeman's, NY. The Florentine's at Cafe Mogador, NY. The plat du jour at La Chaise au Plafond, Paris. I am crazy about "éclair au café" that I miss so much living in New York. Can't find a good one here. But nothing makes me happier than a long walk at the park or, even better, in the wood, or, even better, on the beach.
DS: What is a typical week for Esther Gauthier?
Esther Gauthier: There is no "typical" in my life (except my Earl Grey with milk in the AM). I am staying away from typical. One of the reasons I work freelance. I couldn't bare the idea of doing a 9 to 5 everyday. I try to live my life spontaneously.
DS: Some quick questions: What is the first thing you do in the morning?
Esther Gauthier: Stretch while looking by the window..
DS: What is your favorite word?
Esther Gauthier: Alfred.
Don't ask me why...
DS: What it your favorite quotation? Or make your own for posterity...
Esther Gauthier: "It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye." St Exupéry
DS: What is your favorite "drug"?
Esther Gauthier: Would I actually be so typical if I said chocolate ? Oups.

DS: What magic power would you like to have if you could choose one?
Esther Gauthier: Click my fingers and be wherever I want. How convenient would it be ! I love traveling but I am scared in the plane. It's complicated. But I make it work. I would never give up on exploring the world.
DS: If not yourself, who would you be?
Esther Gauthier: Coco Chanel. How chic she was ! And what a strong woman...
DS: What is in store for you? Any key projects for the next months? Anything you want to share? Can our readers help you with anything?
Esther Gauthier: I am self-publishing the 1st season of Elinor Bird including an extra booklet with amazing addresses. Ideal for a X-Mas present. It will be on-sale at elinorbird.com
Likely, I will also publish Season 3 very soon on the web.

DS: Anything you want to add to close this interview?
Esther Gauthier: Anna Gavalda is the one who made me want to write. This writer knows how to describe people's feeling like anyone else.
DS: Thank you Esther Gauthier
Esther Gauthier: Thank YOU!
